Went live today and am wearing my first pod complete with insulin. So far have remained steady ish between 6-8, which I am happy with . Feeling quite emotionally drained and glad I took the afternoon off work as well as the morning for the appointment. Have spent afternoon going to the gp to get my new testing strips prescription changed from 50 to 200. Filling in warranty card, downloading diasend, ordering more pods etc and testing!

Exciting stuff. Hope everything continues to go well steph 🙂

Hope things go well for you.

Glad things have started well. There is a bit of work to do at the start to make it work for you, but well worth it.
I look forward to hearing how you get on.

Am in the Lake District this week, did my first fasting test today - supposed to be breakfast but got up too late, so did lunch instead. Went on the boat from Bowness to Ambleside, are a carb free pub lunch, walked through a lovely park, back on ferry, swimming with family. Pod and I copied with everything. Was glad to test out swimming with it.

Your post doesn't make sense if you were fasting how did you eat lunch? Fasting is just that fasting as in no grub.

Oh sorry pumper Sue, my pump DSN said no carbs, so I took that to mean I could eat a carb free lunch. This was what we did with DAFNE, maybe I got the wrong end of the stick. You must remember, this is my first week, I am on holiday and am trying to do my best and not disrupt the holiday too much.

I think you are doing well and when I attended my course I was told the same as you a carb free meal could be taken with out any worries and if you do a BG test after a couple of hours it should confirm that for you.

I hope you are getting good weather and have a super holiday.

Hi Steph,
I wasn't having a go at you, just frustrated that you have wasted your time basal testing as it isn't accurate. DSN's should know that fasting is just that as fat and protein will convert and raise your blood sugars.
There's a sticky at the top of the forum telling you how to basal test, perhaps have a read of that for more guidance. 🙂
As your holiday routine is different to your everyday routine it's probably a lot simpler just to fire fight until you are home and back to normal.

Great to hear you're 'live'🙂 Hope all is going well.

Enjoy your holiday.

On the subject of fasting... I was told I could eat 'carb free' foods such as eggs, protein. However they do seem to affect my blood sugar, so when I fast I really go without food, which in my slightly bizarre world isn't a problem😱.

I was thinking exactly that, Pumper Sue. Everything else is different here anyway, so all a bit pointless! I got fixated on the fact that we are sending in our results on Tuesday. That said, my bs still stayed in the 1.7 parameters set, despite it getting hot, doing holiday stuff and eating lettuce cucumber ham and cheese.

Seems like this is an interesting point - some really fast, others have carb free meal. I will clarify what my DSN meant. I guess the problem with all of this is we can't cut out all variables anyway.

My old DSN swore you could eat protein and fat without it affecting the blood tests - personally - I can't. However, I don't have to add anything to a jab to account for protein and fat in a meal - even if there are no carbs on the plate with it. So that's potty of course - but true! LOL

I THINK (don't know for sure) this is one of them YMMV things - some can and some can't.

Just enjoy your holiday Steph. As things will be so different there from your normal routine a fasting test will not help much with the setting up of your pump basal rates. Deal with that when you get home. Your DSN should understand this.

like others I choose to fast completely when doing a basal rate test. It is a hassle to do these so I would rather get as much info as possible and be as accurate as possible so I avoid proteins such as eggs as I know that in the absence of carbs they will impact on my BGs. I also choose to test hourly rather than two hourly.for the same reasons above.
