Hi

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 weeks ago and put on insulin straight away. My GP thought it could be steroid induced as I have been on them for 2 months but the diabetic consultant said she really does not think it is and I have probably had it for a while

I have told the DVLA as that is what the DN told me to do. The DVLA sent a letter for me to sent my licence back for them to send me a medical licence.

My DN has been calling twice a week to see what my levels are and adjust my dose of insulin. When I spoke with her Friday she mentioned about me now being off steroids they will monitor my levels and would look to put me on metaformin (I think that is what it's called)

I might be wrong but I think I only need to inform DVLA if I'm on insulin so if I do come off it is it easy to get a regular licence back or do I need to keep the medical one?

Once you are off insulin, then inform the DVLA, they will do checks with GP etc and return your full licence................. eventually. Do make sure though that it's not a short term thing being off the insulin before you ask for your unrestricted licence back.
