No insulin!

Today we all went out for the day, bought pasties and had a picnic lunch whilst out for a walk. When it came to lunch time my BG was on the low side so I ate my pasty first then went to inject - only there was only 1 unit left! 😱 This is the first time I have ever run out of insulin when nowhere near where I could get some more. Luckily we were on a long walk so that helped but my BG still ended up at a 16.6 before I could get back to my insulin. I can't believe I didn't notice my cartridge was running out. I did ask in the pharmacy about getting hold of some as an emergency but it would have taken almost as long to get sorted as it took me to get back home.

Oh no! I've come close on occasions but have been lucky and now I triple check before I leave home. Good that you weren't hugely high by the time you got home 🙂 It can happen to anyone, I'm sure. The only place I worry less about running out is on a Forum Meet

LOL @Northie - a couple of years back before our forum meet in the summer, Patti had a nightmare which saw her at lunchtime short of a pen needle, and nobody had one since we'd all got pumps ! (we hadn't anyway)

And then to cap it all Wendy who didn't know about the nightmare and had been showing me and Patti her pump a few minutes earlier - when Patti broke off to have her jab said to me from the other side of Patti - Eeeh, Jenny! - do you remember those things (pointing to the pen) from the Olden Days?

We howled with laughter! And Mrs E said she hated both of us.

Not sure what type of case you keep your pen in, newbs, but if you use a pencil case, there's plenty of room for a spare short acting cartridge, plus a long acting cartridge and spare pen needles, too.

Anyway, no harm done this time.

Glad no harm was done, it's scary when you suddenly realise though. I nearly did it myself recently!

I keep my pen in the elastic attached to the back of my BG monitor case. I am considering rethinking that one though.

Oooh TW I so did not have a prob with needles! I just said (due to all the pumpers) "well if I needed a needle I'd have to go a long way to find one wouldn't I?" However, Wendy did make that comment and yes, you laughed! I did find it funny too!

Newbs FWIW on a few odd occasions when I have found myself short of/without insulin/needles I have hoofed it home and had an injection later and I've always found I need a lot less insulin when injected later.

ive done the same 2 weeks ago i had added up all dinner and went to inject and only had 5 units but needed 16 - i was sat trying to work out what i could eat for the lunch that i had BUT luckily I work with a bunch of doctors so one wrote me a new prescription and i got it before my dinner but yes very scary.
