Hi Pinky,
sorry to hear things arn't as perky as they should be (sorry couldn't resist that) re test strips etc.
Look at the NICE guidelines re testing for type 2's. You are entitled to test and self manage your diabetes.
Ask the nurse or GP who you sue for future complications due to lack of care provision and see the response 🙂

Have you followed the links on previous threads, and requested a free meter from one of the companies - i think its Abbotscare (but am sure someone will be along to correct me soon).

At least then you get a few strips / lancets and you can make a start on testing?

I purchased my own meter, strips and lancets at first for ?10 - got 50 test strips and bought an extra box of lancets for ?5. The docs have since given me a prescription for the lancets and strips, although I am limited - so i have bought a further pack of test strips for ?15.

I know you feel you shouldnt have to pay for these yourself, but fact of the matter may be the docs won't fund them. I think I'd rather pay myself and be able to test and know if i'm making progress, rather than not test at all.

I appreciate its not the cheapest passtime, but if you feel it will benefit your health, I'd just go get one rather than spend weeks / months battling with the docs.

Just my opinion - I know not everyone is fortunate enough to have spare income these days!!! Good luck!

If they won't listen, keep moaning and wear them down!

I'm with Sue on this one, print out the NICE guidelines...

Take along to the docs..

Saying, that your condition has got worse as your medication has been increased, but yet you are being asked to change your lifestyle, which you are doing the best you can..

But because they are refusing to issue the necessary test strips to test your blood glucose, you haven't a clue to what changes of lifestyle you are making are or aren't working.. Under the NICE guidelines you should be supplied with Test strips to enable you to know this very important information that you need to manage your condition!

Then point out, their refusal could be deemed as negligence as they are failing to follow the set Guidelines hence gives you grounds for Suing if you become rather ill, due to lack of control!
