Parish council stops her mum coming with her - despite being CRB checked

A professional child minder has been told she cannot take her five-year-old daughter to a Christmas party because of council rules.

Samantha Dade wants to be at the party at Hellesdon community centre on Saturday to keep an eye on her daughter, Tilly-Rose, who has diabetes ? but has been told she would have to wait outside because she has not been vetted by the organisers, Hellesdon Parish Council. The parish council?s policy states that only adults who are CRB-checked by them are allowed to attend the party.

Mrs Dade, 40, is CRB-checked ? but by Norfolk County Council, rather than the parish council.

Fearful of letting her diabetes-suffering daughter go to the party without her there, Mrs Dade says the council has effectively barred Tilly-Rose.

Disgusting Jobsworths! 😱

How unkind 😡

A few years ago a local school was 75 years old. Only former pupils who were CRB checked were allowed to attend the celebrations despite numerous staff and parents of current pupils being in attendance. The parents were not CRB checked!

Update: Parish council reviews policy following ?bonkers? diabetes ban

A parish council which barred a mother from accompanying her diabetic daughter to a Christmas party is reviewing its policy following the ban.

Sam Dade, 40, was told by Hellesdon Parish Council she could not stay with her five-year-old daughter during the council?s Christmas party on Saturday because she was not CRB checked by them.

The professional child minder is CRB checked, but by Norfolk County Council rather than Hellesdon.

Last night the council discussed its disability policy, but took the unusual step of barring the Norwich Evening News from the meeting ? despite the fact that this newspaper reported on the case on Monday.
