Hi alli have been following a low carb diet as advised by GP, have lost 1st 7lbs in a couple of months. I am unsure if it's because of what I am eating but I just don't get hungry. I could probably go all day with just one meal. Is this a normal reaction. Previously I could be starving in the day and would have eaten biscuits and sweet things. I have had an upset stomach past week and unsure if diet related. Just fatigue and generally feeling off. Thanks

@joannem I find it perfectly normal not to be hungry eating low carb.
Are you taking Metformin? It is the first thing I think of when anyone says upset stomach - I had a dreadful few weeks taking it and Atorvastatin.

I find it amazing how I don't feel hungry on a low carb diet and how little food I actually need compared to how much I was eating before.... it was like an obsession or an addiction pre diagnosis and it is really liberating to be free of it now. It is like I have control of my body when it was out of control before.
Today I had a late breakfast of creamy Greek yoghurt with berries and seeds. I have had a couple of chunks of cheese and a couple of pieces of grilled artichoke since then and a couple of cups of coffee with cream mostly because I didn't have any time to prepare any meals today and had to eat on the hoof, but I just haven't felt hungry. I probably could have skipped the cheese but I do love Blue Stilton and it won't keep forever.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not on any medication. Nurse said I can't really be diagnosed until I have another blood test. It's good to know that it's normal to not have much of an appetite. It is weird though.

Eating carb laden food causes a spike in glucose levels. The body goes into top gear to deal with those, which is why people feel like a doze after a heavy lunch. One impact of the body going full pelt to deal with carbs is that once it has we’ve still got all these enzymes etc running around inside us looking for food to consume. There isn’t any. So we’re hungry again. But specifically we’re hungry for fast acting carbs (like biscuits and sweet things).
Remove them from the equation and everything calms down. No postprandial crash. No cycles of hunger. Just a normal appetite.

Too be honest I’m also on low carb but I don’t get hungry either , I’ll eat breakfast then come round lunch time I don’t want to eat so I don’t force myself I just increase water, Then I get hungry around dinner time 🙂 . Except for last night I was not hungry at all , but I knew I needed something with my tablets metformin so I just grabbed some nuts and drank water . I don’t push myself to eat if I’m not hungry , I just need to make sure I have water with me .

Hi Jacinta from another Aussie. How long ago were you diagnosed and have you found you've lost much weight since you haven't been hungry?
