I bought these new Ginger Biscuits by Simpkins that are no added sugar. Stupidly scoffed on a few about less than half an hour ago. Just tested my BG and it's 12.3!

Even with blueberries and strawberries and raspberries and blackberries, the only fruits I eat, it rarely goes above 7.5.

I'm guessing these are not good for me then? Even the no added sugar chocolate didn't have this effect. I'll test again after 7pm I think.

Just back to sugar free jelly and berries for me then.

With diabetes, we are sensitive to all carbohydrates, not just sugar.
The Simpkins no added sugar Ginger Biscuits are nearly 50% carbs whereas berries are less than 10% carbs.
So it is not surprising that they have a greater impact to your blood sugars.

A large baked potato has no added sugar too - but plenty of carbs! I always look at the full nutritional information as names and claims can be deceptive.

Forget about low cal/low reduced sugar just look at the carbs eyeflash.gif

In addition to the advice already given beware foods that have substituted sugar alcohols for sugar such maltitol.

I had sugar free biscuits from Iceland and my sugar levels rocketed.

Don’t folk realise that to make biscuits you have to use flour? Eat fish without batter or crumbs, no problem. Dip your fish in batter, made from flour, or breadcrumbs ditto and they will stick your BG up? If you made your own, you might notice. It’s the total carbs, not just the sugar that’s important.

My go to snack is a poppadom. They are (or should be) made from gram flour - chick pea flour. So there is hardly any carb in it, it’s mainly protein. Or if you don’t have false teeth, pork scratching, though I do have to take around 50,000 units of Creon if I eat a few of those. It’s all the fat.

Some members have had pancreatic issues or had pancreatic surgery and take Creon because of that.
