Night snack

If woken through the night with a low reading say 5.4 got libre set at 5.6, what are people's snacks to get it back up, for me I would reach for a biscuit but recently it hasn't been reliable as I'm been woken 90mins later, any recommendations.

I wouldn’t leave my libre set at 5.6 all night, I’d set it lower so I’m only woken if essential

Are you double checking these low readings as Libre is prone to compression lows from lying on the sensor. If your levels are genuinely dropping and it is a regular occurrence then it may be time to look as reducing your basal insulin.

Personally, I consider 5.6 a good healthy number to sleep at and my alarm is set at 4.5. If my alarm goes off and it isn't a compression low (generally my graph will show a sudden dip and I will wake up lying on the sensor arm if it is a compression low), then I would usually have a single jelly baby (5g carbs) which should take me up to about 6mmols. If I drop again and the alarm activates a second time, I will have another jelly baby. I am usually back to sleep in minutes so it isn't a big deal being woken up.

I generally adjust my evening basal dose each night and reduce it if I have been particularly active, so that I shouldn't get nocturnal hypos, but I absolutely hate being above 8 overnight and prefer to be mid 4s to mid 5s as I sleep best at those levels, so sometimes i cut it a bit fine and need a JB or 2.

Like others I would have my ‘alert before low’ setting at a lower number overnight (4.5) as I am doing nothing to trip my BG up and it is usually pretty steady. If I do get woken in the night I am the same as @rebrascora with my JBs at the ready and a measured dose as necessary.

Ditto...i have my alerts at 5 duringvthe day ( sometimes 5.5) but more 4.5 overnight when changes are slower

Might be worth reducing your basal insulin a smidge @Charl

You may need a little less with the warmer weather?

Let us know how you get on 🙂
