Hi

Can anyone help? My son has started a new job that involves working a week if nights followed by a week off then back to days. The nights come round every 5 weeks it so. He's a type 1 and uses a pump but has had problems with illness and high blood sugars post nights. Anyone any experience or advice to offer please?

Thankyou

Hi, some of the pumps have a pattern A and B for the basal profiles, if his pump has this option he could programme pattern A for his usual routine and pattern B for when he is running higher post nights for example - albeit it may take a little while to tweak would be worth the effort.

Alternatively he could utilise the Temporary Basal Rate option and increase the percentage of basal for "X" amount of time to counteract the high BGs post nights.

Welcome to the forum, Maximax.

How old is your son? What sort of work? Is it similar shift length and workload to what he does by day?

Please let him know that he's very welcome to join and ask his own questions here.

The obvious springs to mind........ If he works nights then has a week off he is less active so needs more insulin, so the simple solution is to set up another basal pattern for this which run's higher than his normal insulin levels.

Good luck with this Maximax. What type of pump is it (make). Has he been on it for a while & is he used to setting different basals ?
