Hi All, I went for my diabetic eye screening a week ago, and today received the results , no problems found , very happy.
On another topic, when COVID first started, the diabetes team at my local hospital passed my care back to my GP surgery.
I enquired before Christmas as to whether it would go back to the hospital team, but GP said as I seemed to be coping well they would leave it as it is. Well I was not happy with that, so contacted the hospital team and have now got an appointment with the consultant booked in May.

That is fantastic news, @Martin62 especially as only dedicated diabetes consultanbts can prescribe the latest technology such as CGMs and pumps, if required.

Are you celebrating with your latest bake?

Funnily enough I have just tried a slice x

I think some areas are set up like that. I'm now under the care of my GP, though if I want I can see a DSN (and I have their contact details so I can seek help). Having said that, my last review was with a GP and a DSN (one visits the GP surgery once a month).

As @helli notes, some technology has to come from the specialist team. Also I doubt very much a GP would be comfortable changing an insulin (from Novorapid to FIASP, for example). So it's really important to be able to see someone from the specialist team.

Hi Bruce, i can't complain about the care I get from my gp surgery, I even have a dedicated diabetes nurse. I just wanted to see the consultant as I have a few questions I think he will be able to answer for me and I'd like to try and get a cgm on prescription.

Which is exactly the kind of reason I'd also want to see the consultant. (Well, I'd be fine seeing a DSN instead which is likely what would happen.)

Do you mean CGM or LIbre?
I know that sounds pedantic but, in England, the Libre (Flash Glucose Monitor) budget is separate to the CGM budget.
Libre 2 is easier to get than a CGM like Dexcom and provides most of the functionality including alarms when your levels are too high or too low.

(Sorry, just wanting to set expectations.)

Probably the libre, I have been using the glucorx aidex cgm , self funded , its cheaper than dexcom but still too much to buy every month.

Libre (or Libre 2) should be an easy thing to get, especially after the updated guidelines come in to effect. There's every chance you'll be offered that.

(A while ago I asked my GP about Libre. She thought it was a bit iffy but possible so referred me to the practice pharmacist. After a discussion she thought I ought to qualify so I was referred to the diabetes team who approved me for the trial. Not sure what the point of that digression was except to say that if you're interested in something specific there's a decent chance you'll be referred to the specialist team if that's necessary.)
