NICE should review whether its guidance is effective at changing medical practice in the NHS and do more to help improve uptake of its advice, experts said.
The comments came at a Westminster Health Forum event on the future of NICE held in London on Thursday.
In a speech about improving mental health care, Dr Geraldine Strathdee, national clinical director for mental health at NHS England, said NICE should place greater focus on ensuring its mental health guidance is adopted consistently across England.
She said: ?The problem is not that we don?t have health technology appraisals and guidelines and quality standards. It?s that somehow we have not ? and I don?t think mental health is unique to this ? been able to learn from the places that are implementing the guidelines so it becomes routine practice.
