NHS managers cut out magazine photos of celebrities, watched actors perform and were drawn by a cartoonist during a series of team-building away days costing the taxpayer ?700,000.
The events at luxury hotels were designed to give the staff ?a sense of belonging? after they joined NHS England, a new quango overseeing spending of the country?s ?95.6 billion health budget.
Most already worked for the health service, at local or regional health authority level, and though some have moved to a new headquarters in Leeds, many haven?t even had to change offices in what amounts to a rebranding of their existing roles under the NHS England banner.
