NHS staff in Liverpool gathered to voice their anger at health service cuts.

Workers said government cost savings and pay freezes were leaving them “disheartened.”

They carried placards and urged all NHS staff and passers-by to sign a petition calling for fair pay at a rally today outside the Royal Liverpool hospital.

Su Edwards, union representative for staff at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen hospitals, said health minister Jeremy Hunt was trying to “dismantle” the NHS but warned him that dedicated doctors, nurses, porters, admin staff and the many more who care for patients would not let him.

She said: “I think staff are very disheartened, I think it’s hard when you give good care, and we do give good care in this trust.
