NHS leaders have been criticised for investing £13.5 million in portable wards and theatres instead of permanent buildings.

Work started on installing the 4,000 square metre temporary structure at the Royal Stoke University Hospital last month.

Portakabin Hire was awarded the contract because of the speed it can deliver the project as demand on services continues to grow.

But the move has been condemned as a waste of taxpayers’ money with temporary buildings only having a limited shelf life.
