The CSP says seven-day services in the NHS have not so far always produced better quality outcomes for patients, or more efficient services. It calls for a ‘relentless focus’ on improving the quality of care for patients, through integrated service delivery, as full-week services are rolled out across the NHS in England.
The government has asked the NHS Pay Review Body and the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration to examine the provision of seven-day services, which is one of its key objectives for the NHS in England.
The CSP also criticised the rejection of a one per cent across the board rise for all NHS employees in England and Northern Ireland by the country’s respective governments.
