well the line "One group of researchers found patients who self-test are more likely to end up depressed than in better health." i agree with my depression is more out of control then it ever has been since Feb

Not so far. But if the surgery won't let me have them in future then I may have no choice. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'm a bit of a control freak, no matter what 'they' say I can't not test, I need to know what's going on for my own peace of mind.

Yes I expect at this stage of diagnosis I wouldnt blame you if its part reassurance and part the need to test. Its so positive that you have the motivation to test, not everyone can manage it, for whatever reason.

Are you insulin dependant?

I would consider finding out who your local MP is, get writing, get them to put the pressure on the primary healthcare team. Sometimes routines can also take months to settle, you might find you dont end up needing so many, you never know.

No Sugar I'm managing it by diet and pills for now. Metformin 1000mg and 80mgs Gliclazide, plus 40mgs Simvastatin p/d. As I've said elsewhere it's only been a month but I'm firmly convinced that testing regularly is the only way I'm going to get the disease under control and keep it that way. I don't know about anyone else but it's working for me. I have no wish to end up blind, or having bits chopped off because I couldn't keep track of my condition and I'll fight tooth and nail to get what I believe I need to win this fight. I said early on I was going to be a militant diabetic 😉. I always was a bolshie cow, and I've never believed that 'doctor knows best'.

Perhaps I have an advantage over some of you in that I've had to fight for proper treatment before, growing up with another chronic condition taught me some bitter lessons. Having eczema as severe as mine was no joke and the treatments were often worse than the disease. I learnt to ask questions and refuse to let 'them' simply do what 'they' pleased with me. I learned all I could about my disease and became more of an expert than the medics I was dealing with. In the end, I took charge of my condition and got rid of it by myself. I still get the odd rash, but it's nothing like it used to be. I intend to do the same with the diabetes.
