The NHS trust in charge of Bristol Children’s Hospital is forking out around £10,000 a month for a private PR company to manage enquiries around its heart unit.

Since the last week of February, the University of Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has paid £25,300 to hire in Grayling despite having its own communications team.

A spokesperson from the trust said: “Clear communications is an increasingly important part of any NHS Trust’s work. The Trust has a small in house communications team and uses external support at times of peak activity to ensure that our core function is not compromised.
