NHS managers have agreed to pay a five figure sum to the family of a great-grandmother who died after telling doctors she felt suicidal.

The county’s mental health service has apologised “unreservedly” for the circumstances leading to the death of Patricia Self.

Mrs Self, 61, of Hazelwood Avenue, Birchwood, was killed in January 2011 after being hit by nine cars on Lincoln’s bypass.

Witnesses recalled seeing her running towards traffic and kneeling in the road on the southbound carriageway between the Carholme and Skellingthorpe roundabouts.
