New medication developed in the UK for treating multiple sclerosis (MS) has been given approval for use on the NHS in England and Wales.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has given the go-ahead for alemtuzumab as a treatment for adults with relapsing–remitting MS.

Some experts have described alemtuzumab – which is also known by its brand name Lemtrada – as ‘life-changing’ and ‘revolutionary’.
