NHS Libre experiences after 6 months?

I suspect that, like me, most people are given the Libre on a '6-month trial' basis, and was wondering if anyone had passed this point and, if so, what criteria were used to either stop prescribing or continue? I don't think they could stop mine on cost - I only do blood tests at start of new sensor and/if the scan shows a number that doesn't correspond to how I'm feeling e.g. scan shows 2.3 and blood test shows 4.9. Plus, using it has improved my controlled and significantly enhanced my quality of life 🙂

Would be interested to hear other's experiences 🙂

It must be a worry for you and others when their trial period is coming to an end, esp when it has been such a life changer . I have often said , their would be blood if they tried to stop me using the Libre, mind you Their isn’t much they could do about it lol.

I reallly hope they say yes.

My experience has been pretty irritating. I was meant to have a libre review on the 25th October, took the day off work, turned up to my appointment to find the gates padlocked shut. Cue panic, phone calls, turns out the appointment has been cancelled and nobody bothered to tell me. The woman I speak to in the admin team is unable to say whether the appointment is going to be rescheduled, and haven't heard anything since. Emailed the DSN team to see what's going on and no response. God help them if they try to take away my libre because of all this!! Though my Hba1c has gone from 45 to 41 with less hypos so I don't think they'd have a leg to stand on...

Weren't you given documentation on what criteria were likely to be significant for you?

(My guess is they're likely to OK most patients who are getting something out of the Libre, since they're likely to be trying to get to somewhere close to 20% and I don't think they're close yet.)

No criteria was mentioned Northie, was testing 10x a day before so just assume this was a factor.

Bloods due to be taken soon, kinda think result will be lower than last one, not bothered either way as quality of life is better using libre, nearly give up on it before software update, so pleased I didn't as it's game changer.

I was given approval in September (I think) and did the suggested online training straight away.

I’ve heard nothing since.

I’m not too bothered because I have some Enlites to keep me going, but will chase up pretty pronto when I run out of those!

Hi Northener, I have just had my 6mth review with my consultant, all went very well, and they have signed off for my GP to carry on with my prescription. The consultant checked through my reader and commented on the they liked the fact that I was taking a reading at around every two hours during the day and also sometimes over night, they where also interested in things like how many miles I drove over the 6mths (over 5000mls) I was also able to show that I was also doing around 4 bg finger prick tests a day, to ensure hypos where not a problem so I think that lifestyle was a factor in the decision to carry on.

Hi Northener, many thanks for the reply, I forgot to say in my last post that I use the Mysgr app on my mobile phone to record all my finger prick tests. This is very useful to show your consultant, it is a great app as it also can be used to take Libre tests as well, it can also email directly to anyone tests reports. If you have not seen it have a look in the sw store it’s a very useful tool.

My 6 month review was supposed to be in the first week in September, but apparently my consultant is too busy and has a backlog of patients to see. I went down to St James' hospital in Leeds to complain, and the nurses quoted 2 to 4 months of backlog, so I can only guess when I will see my consultant again. Until then I am back to self funding.

That seems hardly fair Benny! It’s not your fault they aren’t able to schedule the appointments in a timely way!
