The NHS needs to effectively prepare itself for the increased demand this winter as staff are currently delivering ?over and above? their capacity , the British Medical Association has warned.
Welsh Secretary Dr Richard Lewis said that there were still issues with doctors vacancies, both in primary and secondary care, and that lessons needed to be learned from last year, which saw health boards reporting difficulties coping with ?unprecedented demand? on their services.
He said that work was needed to ensure that the service was ready for the inevitable increase in demand, that could be aggravated by the outbreak of a virus such a flu.
