NHS England could be about to spend millions of pounds teaching members of the public how to use the internet, it has emerged.

A tender, issued in July, said NHS England was looking for a provider to help it meet a commitment to train 100,000 citizens in basic online skills in order to boost health literacy.

Local libraries often offer low-cost internet training. A voucher for a starter session and a list of websites might do the trick, rather than inviting private companies to tender.

But how many libraries have the cuts caused to close :( Here in Southampton you can't get near the computers in the central library because of all the foreign students using them dawn till dusk, but you can grab an hour on one of my local library's two computers if you're lucky.

Invest more in the libraries, as you say, instead of outsourcing to someone looking for a profit!

Sounds like a bunch of people in offices thinking of things to keep them employed :( Should employ some nurses & pay some office staff off.

What local library? Our nearest closed.
