The embattled head of the NHS Sir David Nicholson will go ?in September? claims a respected health analyst and former NHS Trust chairman.

Roy Lilley, a founder member of the NHS Trust Federation, said sources had told him that Sir David could be gone before the conference season in autumn.

?My sources tell me he will be gone in September,? Mr Lilley, a former Conservative councillor told Daybreak this morning.

?He?ll be gone before the party conferences. They won?t want to take this to the party conferences in October.

"But in the interim period I think he is just going to have to tough it out.?
The claims come as the head of the NHS face further calls to resign today when he is grilled over his expenses and his role in gagging whistle-blowers.
