CHANGING technology has improved people’s lives in all areas, especially in medicine.

In our latest feature celebrating the NHS’s 70th anniversary we shine a light on the experiences of one of Bolton’s diabetes specialist nurses.

AMY Savage, aged 49, has been a specialist in diabetes for 19 years. For the last two she has been at Royal Bolton Hospital.

She says that advancing technology has revolutionised the treatment and diagnosis of the condition.

The impressive leaps forward can be seen in the pictures above.

Yes, the technology advances that are strictly limited by NICE and the CCGs.

Wonderful, isn’t it?
My thoughts also, the article implies pumps and CGMs are commonplace and strips readily available to all! 😱 🙄 At least the nurse is aware of them - some aren't! 😱

Imagine if Disney did diabetes...🙂

If Disney did diabetes,
What a wonderful thing it would be!
For cute woodland creatures would all rally round,
And test strips would all grow on trees!

And hypos would sparkle like sunshine,
The meters would all dance and sing!
And a lancet called Burt would never, ever hurt,
And Lantus would no longer sting!

Insulin would be gathered from dewdrops,
Sucked up into colourful pens,
Metformin and gliclazide would be speckled eggs
Laid by clucking and magical hens!

Imagine if Minnie and Mickey
In the spirit of rodent romance,
Allowed you to see your HbA1c
Expressed through the medium of dance!

At the end of the heart-warming story,
We would all shed a tear when we hear
The Fairy Queen say that a cure’s on the way,
Diabetes? We’ve nothing to fear! :D
