Dr Tim Ringrose reflects on views from doctors who have called for the controversial NHS 111 service to be scrapped

Many doctors view the new NHS 111 non-emergency hotline as a 'fatally flawed concept that will never be safe or cost effective' and one which has wreaked havoc on A&E departments in recent weeks.

Doctors strongly criticised the 111 service in an online discussion relating to a recent Doctors.net.uk poll, which found that 70 per cent of members thought the hotline should be scrapped. It was to blame for a 50 per cent rise in A&E attendance at some hospitals.
