Hi everyone,

I’ve been around the forum for a while. A few months ago my HBA1C was 47 and today I got the results of the most recent - 48. I have an appointment on Thursday. Is this enough for a diagnosis? What will happen now?

48 is the threshold for diagnosis but for results than are just at that point sometimes a second test is done.
Did you make any changes to your diet when you got your previous result as it should have been possible to have reduced your HbA1C rather than being static. A review of your diet would be a good idea, this link may help you see what you need to do. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ and prepare you for your appointment.
Hopefully you will be given the opportunity to try without medication but it does need commitment to make some changes.

From my experience the most useful thing you can do now is to watch Professor Roy Taylor's talk, 'Achieving T2D remission (May 2023)'. His final message lose 15kg or more by any means to get your body back to normal.

Three ways to do that, all basically the same:
- Freshwell: https://www.lowcarbfreshwell.com/documents/8/Freshwell_Red_Amber_Green.pdf
- Dr David Unwin: https://phcuk.org/wp-content/uploads/A_5_page_low_carb_diet_leaflet_Unwin_2021-converted.pdf
- Zoe Harcombe: What should we eat? https://www.zoeharcombe.com/2021/08/what-should-we-eat/

Then commit yourself to a target on Thursday!

Expect to be enrolled as diabetic, offered face to face/online educational sessions, an eye test for retinopathy, metformin, and more or less dietary advice.

To be honest I didn’t really make any meaningful changes. I know I need to and I’m determined this time. I don’t want any more medication. I’m on enough. Thanks for all the links. They are amazing.

Hi @Peter1982 and welcome.

I'll second the notion of needed changes to your diet and lifestyle if you want to stay off medication, but you'll be able to discuss that with your doctor on Thursday. And should you have any questions after your appointment - do share them, there's a lot of folk here who are likely to have the answers and the support needed.

Many thanks everyone.

The meeting was ok. I got a printed out pack. The nurse was very nice. I’m cutting carbs tomorrow
