Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello. My blood test showed 49 so my GP says this is Diabetes & we will have a talk. I have a couple of heart problems which make exercising difficult but I do walk dogs daily. It's a bit of a shock because, unlike husband, who has been diabetic for years, I eat healthy and have no family history. I am trying to find some chair-type exercises and also some dance exercises but so far none really suit me. I welcome any advice but please be kind.

Welcome to the forum.
It can be a surprise for people to get a diagnosis especially when they believe they eat healthily however what may be for a non diabetic is not so if Type 2 when they have a problem tolerating all the carbs that people are encouraged to eat with the NHS Eat Well plate.
It should not be necessary for you to need medication as some dietary changes should be all that is required. Have a look at this link for some ideas for making some changes to your diet https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
You say your husband is diabetic, is that Type 2 or Type 1 and how does he manage it.
If Type 2 then depending on what medication he takes there is no reason why you could not adopt the same dietary regime which would make meals easier.
Obviously if Type 1 that is a different kettle of fish.

Welcome to the forum @Amyalta

The diagnosis point for diabetes is 48mmol/mol, so you are just a whisker over the threshold. This may mean that only relatively modest tweaks to your menu will be required.

While there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will want to cut right back on straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits. That doesn’t man you have to avoid those things entirely - but reducing portion sizes, and opting for lower carb options (eg berries are often much gentler on the BG than bananas, oranges or fruit juice).

Hopefully with a few tweaks to your menu you’ll find a flexible, enjoyable, and sustainable way of eating that suits your blood glucose levels.
