Type 2
Hi there all

My names John, 33 for the past few months I've been very tired and peeing a lot, which I thought it was me living off coffee due to the nature of my job
Anyway two weeks I took a funny turn (felt like I was drunk) while at work, had a amblance called was taken to the local hospital, which they said it was acid reflux.
Anyway after much arguments with my gp and the hospital as I wasn't happy with the explanation they agreed to take more bloods, yesterday they diagnosed me with type 2 and started me in metformin
I excerise a lot usually doing 60 minutes a day cycling. Plus 4 to 5 hours at the weekend
I know I need to change my diet as I used to live on junk and ready meals, but any help would really be much appreciated.

Hello and welcome.
Did you get the results of your Hba1c test and your blood glucose level at the time the blood was taken?
The advice on diet does vary according to the numbers - though even high ones are not sinister, it just means that a longer slower process is advisable.

Hi there

It was high, think they said it was 63
As - well many have been diagnosed with far higher numbers - my Hba1c was 91, and the blood glucose 17.1 mmol/l at the first test.
With any luck simply reducing the high carb foods you eat con sort it out.
An ordinary type 2 just can't deal with the modern diet.
You could turn out to be dealing with something more interesting, but a plain uncomplicated type 2 (like me) can just eat meat, fish, sea food, eggs and cheese based meals (not all on the same day) and add in stir fry, salad, low carb veges and fruit such as berries and drop down into normal numbers.
Testing after meals can help, as some people can cope with some foods more than others. I found that all carbs from grain, for instance, really make me spike, but some people swap to sweet potato rather than ordinary and see lower numbers even though there is little difference in carb content.

Drummer, you have but my mind at so much ease, thank you so much, unfortunately type 2 is in the family, and my high paced lifestyle hadn't helped

Ditto - but my mother's family in particular ate low carb from way back in the last century and lived long and prospered.
