I have only recently been diagnosed with t2 spent 3 months doing low carb diet and exercise my h1a1c have reduced but Dr still put me on metformin so feeling a bit why did I bother! Felt he should of waited another 3 months, before resorting to drugs.

Hi and a warm welcome TJH although disheartening for you there's no shame in a little help from the metformin don't think bad of yourself you seem to have took the bull by the horns on your own just the doctor felt you still needed a little helping hand .I felt the exact same when I was in your situation and that was 8 years ago and I'm still on the metformin and it's helped

I just feel once you are on medication they will never take you off and I hate taking medication. Just have to accept it !

There are a number of members on here who come off medication. Begining of last year I was on 3 medications and am now only on 2.

TJH...it is possible to 'get off' the medication once your BG has reduced to an acceptable level...it can take some time...I have reduced my Metformin...now just take 500gms daily...hoping at my next review in September I will be able to stop taking it...taken me almost a year to get to that stage...at your next review it may be possible to reduce or stop your Metformin use...if your BG is within the accepted range...there are a number of members who have been able to stop the medication (with their GP agreement)...manage their diabetes with diet & exercise only...give yourself time.
