Hi Jan and welcome.
You will find lots of advice and tips here from helpful friendly people who know what you are going through. Just bear in mind that we are all individuals and therefore things that one person can eat without causing a problem may be a no-no for someone else. Using a Blood Glucose Meter to test is the only real way to figure out what you can get away with but in general sugars and starches are what cause out BG to rise, so cutting right back on, not just sweet stuff, but also bread, rice, pasta, breakfast cereals and potatoes will make a difference, not forgetting that fruits contain a lot of natural sugar which may also adversely affect you. That may make you wonder what on earth you can actually eat, but once you get your head around such a massive change, it can actually be quite enjoyable and sustainable. Meat, fish eggs, mushrooms and dairy are usually all OK. Green leafy veg like cabbage, brussels, spinach and kale plus cauli, broccoli, courgettes, aubergines cucumbers, peppers, salad leaves are all good. Go steady on root veg and peas and beans and berries like rasps and strawberries are usually better than tropical fruits like bananas, pineapples and mangos etc. Nuts and olives and cheese make good snacks. I find that starting the day with a 2 egg mushroom omelette really helps to stabilise my BG for the day although I vary the filling by adding onions, peppers, cheese, ham or even courgettes and aubergine and I have it with a green salad and avocado so it is quite a plateful!
Exercise can be as simple as a 15 min brisk walk or an hour of gardening every day to begin with. It doesn't have to be anything really exertive and in some respects less exertive exercise is more likely to bring your BG down.
I hope that gives you a little insight into the direction you need to follow. I am sure others will be along soon with more advice.

Thank you so much for your reply...I will take on board what you have said...I have cut out sugar, ( cakes, biscuits etc )...Past few weeks I've felt rotten & didn't know why...so routine blood test showed Diabetes & low iron...I will see how I go & tbh I needed this to shake me up..x

Yes I also needed something drastic to make me change my diet and lifestyle and I actually feel like this diagnosis has had a positive impact on my life, but it has also been a roller coaster getting to this point both emotionally and BG levels wise and I am pretty sure there will be more roller coaster rides with it in the future. Hopefully I will be less scared of the peaks and troughs as I get more experienced at riding the Big Dipper!

True, I also have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia...& that's a challenge in its self..x

Sorry to hear you have other health issues. I have struggled with stress and depression for years and migraine but I haven't had a single migraine since diagnosis/changing my diet and apart from when my blood sugars are all over the place I feel more positive and generally in a better mental state. I hope you can find some positives from the change of diet and perhaps weight loss if that is applicable, It certainly feels good to get into clothes that I haven't worn for 30+ years! (I am a hoarder, so I am rediscovering the dark depths of my wardrobe!!)
