Hi all
Diagnosed yesterday with hba1c of 92. Just trying to get my head around everything. Aged 64 Weight 17stone 13pounds in old money bmi32 blood pressure 130/80 total cholesterol 5.7. From everything I’ve read so far seems exercise weight loss and cutting carbs is the main focus. On one 500mg metformin but back to the nurse in a weeks time. All a bit confusing but this seems a great resource. Exercise not too much of a problem as I have two dogs who need walking and looking at all the advice for carb control. Probably not be a prolific poster but great to know there is support out there from others who have been or are going through the same thing.
Cheers

Spot on Jezza cutting carbs & increasing your activity is the key to reducing your blood glucose levels...92 is high but not insurmountable (mine was higher) with the right regime you can reduce those numbers reasonably well...are there any particular questions you have...if so post them here no doubt one of us will be able to offer some advice....make a few suggestions...there are several threads on the forum that will give you a good idea of how to cut your carb intake without too much 'punishment' … I think you'll be surprised at what you can eat rather than what you can't eat have a look through the food section...your nurse appointment in a weeks time is likely to discuss your options possibly on diet...any increase in medication...possibly an education course...some of us here have been lucky with advice from our health care professionals...some not so lucky it can be a bit of a lottery which you get...have you thought about testing your BG's...or is it too early to broach that subject...think about it...keep us updated when you can...and please do ask any questions you need to here...good luck.

Cheers Bubsie
No real questions at the moment. Just doing bits of internet research which sometimes seems trickywith occasionally conflicting suggestions. All a bit early for self testing as only diagnosed yesterday but will talk to the nurse next Friday. If I do have questions should I post on this or the general thread as it seemed to suggest the general thread on the main forum page? They have already referred me for a course and also have to go for an eye screening test which I am not looking forward to as I am somewhat phobic about eyes. Anyway thanks for your reply and I’m sure things will seem less daunting in time .

Hi @Jezza3 , just diagnosed myself around 6/7 weeks ago ..welcome to the club no one wants to join, but you seem to be on the right track with what you're doing so keep checking back in here and consider self testing, it gives you an idea of how your blood sugars are doing, after all you don't really want to maintain them at a high level for extended periods of time
Regards
M.

The general forum would probably be the best place Jezza….it is likely to get more attention there...assuming .the eye test is the standard screening one it is a doddle...really… a couple of drops in each eye...then some photographs...it only takes about 15 minutes in total...it isn't anything to worry about and non-invasive.

Welcome Jezza 🙂. You are on the right track, stick with the forum
you`ll be o.k.

Welcome to the forum Jezza from a fellow T2

Cheers all. The only other forum I look at is a Burnley football club forum which tends to be full of abuse so this all seems a tad different thank god.

Welcome to the forum Jezza. Lots of advice above from people with a lot of experience of T2, and great to read that you have already started on the right track with working to manage your condition.
