hi everyone i got told last week that i had diabetes and was given metformin to take. other than that i was sent home with no idea where i go from here. i wasnt told what to eat or anything else

Hi Steffie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear that you have been left with little information about how to deal with your diagnosis - the links that people have given should give you a bit of a start. The main thing to bear in mind is that diabetes is mainly concerned with carbohydrates and how quickly, and by how much, they affect your blood glucose levels. Refined white flour products or highly processed foods are best avoided, instead you need to go for things like seeded/granary bread ('Burgen' bread is one of the best if you can find it in your supermarket), fresh fruit and vegetables (but be careful because some fruit contains a lot of natural sugar). Have a look at the following for some good ideas of the type of diet you need to follow in order to manage your diabetes well.
