Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello you all just been diagnosed, I put in my profile type 1 but to be honest I dont know, the doctor told me I am diabetic and the nurse gave me a booklet told me to lay off the sugar and gave me a blood form for a month.

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. From the apparent lack of urgency shown by your doctor, I would suspect that you are Type 2 - Type 1 needs urgent treatment with insulin. Sounds like they didn't give you much information either, which really is terrible! I'd suggest getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - highly recommended by many of our members as the best introduction to what you can expect and how to manage your blood sugar levels. There is further information in our Useful links thread. Diabetes is not just about sugar, which is a form of carbohydrate, but ALL carbohydrates. This doesn't mean you need to avoid them all, but you will need to learn what you can tolerate well, and in what amounts. Have a look at the GL Diet books mentioned in the Useful Links thread - GL is a way of combining foods so that the impact on your blood sugar levels is more stable and gradual.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly'! 🙂

Welcome to the forum.

I remain utterly bewildered at the lack of care of some GPs. 😡

Anyway, hopefully you will be able to pick up a thing or two with us (and I promise that I haven't been to Germany nor eaten any Spanish cucumbers)

Andy 🙂
