Hi Steven, welcome to the forum 🙂 You'll find lots of people here with all sorts of experience who hopefully will be able to help you out with any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly'!

What sort of insulin regime are you on?

i take 12 units of levemir a night and i did the Dafne course so it depends on how much carbs i have during the day, i test like 6 times a day and so far i feel ok haha. just seems a bit of getting used to i suppose.

Hi arcticwolf. Welcome 🙂

You've done well with a first HbA1c of 6.7.

Which insulin do you take for your bolus ?

ROb

hi Teapot 🙂
Just read ur blog, sounds exactly like my story of how i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes it really is a pain in the bum as i was in the Royal Air Force and just been recently Medically Discharged. Hope everything with you goes well and i'll be around if you wanna chat! x

The bolus is the short acting. The long acting is basal. 🙂

Welcome to the forum Steven! It sounds like you are doing very well with an HbA1c of 6.7 on your first test 🙂 I am on Levemir too - I take it twice a day now because I found it ran out after about 14 hours. Different people get on better with different insulins, I take Apidra instead of levemir because it starts working quicker and wears off quicker - but it really depends on the person.

Welcome to the forum Steven. Well done on the good A1c results and I lok forward to getting to know you on here. XXXXX

Most T1s on MDI are on long acting basals of either levemir or lantus and fast acting bolus of novorapid or humalog.

As Natalie suggests, it depends on what your care team start you off on and whether they suit you or not. They seem to be largely interchangeable but have slightly different characteristics.

The important thing is to keep the BGs down without too many hypos. 🙂

Welcome to the forum articwolf 🙂

Welcome articwolf - are you an artic(ulated) or north polar wolf?
Probably too soon to mention RAF to you without causing sadness, as I remember when I couldn't rejoin TA, having left to emigrate, then getting diagnosed. However, Wednesday saw me orienteering round an RAF base in East Anglia - and with great delight was able to reassure the download team and organiser that yes, control 18 was in place, even if several RAF guys couldn't find it. However, perhaps can help you with suggestions about leading an active life with diabetes and insulin.

A very warm welcome to the forum Steven,

I used to do a bit of walking in Snowdonia as a lad and often had the delight of watching the RAF planes flying down the valleys (occasionally below me!!).

Anyway, I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice and chat here.

Andy 🙂
