Hi @georgettehd and a warm welcome to the Forum 🙂 . If you're happy to, can you give any details of how you are managing the condition, on medication (?) etc. There are lots of friendly members here, also Type 2 who are more than happy to provide advice and support .
Welcome to the forum
You have been given your result in old units of % but that converts to 79mmol/mol so yes as you say pretty high. I am surprised that you weren't prescribed medication but good on you if you are committed to lifestyle changes to bring it down.
How long have you been trying your new regime, remember it is not going to be a quick fix but a change for life.
Many do find a low carb approach successful so you may find this link helpful to give you a good explanation of what is needed and some menu ideas so you will see what you can still eat and have filling meals. It is based on a suggested no more than 130g carbs not just sugar per day, it is not NO carbs. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Others have found a very low calorie or shakes and soups regime to give a kick start works for them followed by a transition to a more sustainable regime which people find a low carb is.
Whatever you choose has to be enjoyable otherwise it will not be sustainable.
Hope the changes you are making to your diet and lifestyle are having a positive impact.
We don’t use the % numbers for HbA1c in the UK any more - are you based overseas? That’s not a problem, we have members from several different countries, but naturally most of our members and experience is based on how things work in the UK.
