Type 2
Hi all,

I was diagnosed with type 2 at the end of 2022. Original hba1c of 94 and I've managed to get it down to 57 over the last few weeks.
I was started on Metformin twice a day but it upset my stomach and was moved onto slow release Metformin (1000mg twice a day) about 5 weeks ago. I am using the Librelink Freestyle 2 sensor to keep an eye on the levels and some days are better than others (most of the time it registers below 10)

I am wondering if I am the only one, but I have a few symptoms, that comes and goes, more so towards the end of a week and stays for most of the weekend

* Stomach ache (use Buscopan when its really bad)
* Back ache (if been prescribed gel to rub in)
* Just generally feeing under the weather (no energy etc)
* Headaches that comes and goes

Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Slow release metformin is usually taken once a day. However that would not necessarily explain your symptoms and I would have thought 5 weeks was long enough for those common symptoms to have settled down.
Are they related to the food you are having, keeping a food diary could help pinpoint any particular foods which trigger the symptoms.
Maybe look at your diet and see if there is anything there which could help reduce your blood glucose, this link may help with some ideas https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Other than maybe a different routine at the weekend your body doesn't know what day of the week it is.
Headaches are often because you are dehydrated so make sure you drink plenty.
I have not heard of backache being mentioned as a side effect.
I would speak to your nurse or GP if your symptoms are still persisting.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Hi peggleg, welcome to the forum.

Congratulations n getting your numbers down! That's quite a reduction so it's normal to feel a bit off as your body adjusts to it's new normal.

Things like back ache aren't normal associated with reducing BS levels so it might be worth keeping an eye on things and letting your GP know if it persists or if you're concerned. Hopefully, in a few months, things will settle down and you'll feel well again.

You seem to be doing really well overall but do let us know if we can help in any way.
