Hi my name is Melanie and I have been newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, looking forward to reversing it but I know it's going to be a lot of changes on my part 😱

Thank you, just getting my head around it although i knew i was borderline before but life gets in the way sometimes but now time for some changes, small steps

How much you will need to do will depend on what your HbA1C is but hopefully you will not be too far into the diabetes zone 48mmol/mol is the threshold.
Some dietary changes will be needed and many have found a low carbohydrate approach successful so you may find this link helpful with some good explanation and some menu ideas so you will see there is still plenty you can eat. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :(

Did it come out of the blue? Or is this something which has been building up for some time? Do you have anyone with diabetes in your close family?

The 2 main strategies in use on the forum are either to focus on weight loss, or to focus on blood glucose management.

Weight loss can be achieved by any means that works, but people are being referred to the NHS Path To Remission programme (a short soup/shake intervention of about 800cals a day). Folks who succeed with this approach find their glucose levels fall as their weight comes off.

Folks who focus on blood glucose management often employ a lower carb menu (typically less than 130g of carbs per day, but it varies for each individual, have better results by going lower). Folks who have success moving to a low carb ‘way of eating’ often find their weight reduces as their glucose levels improve.
