Hi Everyone, being 50, fat, drinking too much and grossly unfit, there was a certain inevitability about arriving here! Committed to getting on top of this and looking to this forum for help, support and advice!

Hi @Maccman and welcome, that’s one hell of an introduction  welcome also to the first day of the rest of your life :D You can certainly make a difference to those numbers, everything you need to know is on these pages so make a cuppa, get comfortable and read.....
It’s not just about the obvious sugars bit also carbohydrates, these are the little blighters that push our blood glucose levels up, rice, pasta, potatoes and bread, although many of us do tolerate Burgen Bread which is a soya and linseed alternative that is low carb.
Have a good look through the various posts and then so any quesyyou might have 😉

Hi Cathy, thanks for the reply! I was aware that the body metabolises Carbs into Sugars, a few years ago I had a crack at the Atkins diet, would you say something similar, i.e. Low Carbs, High Protein is the way forward?

Atkins is ideal - if you read the last edition of New Diet Revolution - mine is dated 2003 there is quite a bit about controlling diabetes in it.
I can keep my blood glucose normal at 50 gm of carbs a day, and lose some weight, but more volume - my waist used to be more an equator.
To try to lose more weight I am down to 40 gm a day, hopefully just for a while, but a lot of diabetics seem to be able to get normal numbers at around the 40 to 50 gm of carbs a day level - and the food choices are great.
