Hi there, I am so grateful to have found this forum and have already found answers to some of the million questions I have. My diagnosis came as the result of visiting the GP for something entirely unrelated and her saying, "While you are here......". It turned out that I have an underactive thyroid as well as type 2 diabetes so am now on thyroxin and metformin. A couple of days ago I learnt how to test my sugar. So far, so good. I am keeping within the range she has set for me (between 5 and 9) but last night I had a reading of 10.1 and had a wobble of confidence. After two weeks on the metformine, I have lost 3kg (lots to go) and have increased my exercise mainly by walking.
Having read Maggie Davey's well written article, I have a greater understanding of what this is all about but I am sure I will have a lot of questions.

Welcome to the forums Linda 🙂

The Gretchen Becker book is also very helpful as well!

Hi Linda, welcome to the forum 🙂 There is a lot to learn - it certainly surprised me how little I knew about the workings of the human body when I was first diagnosed! - you will get there though, and you have already made an excellent start from the sounds of things. It's great that you have been given the means to measure your blood glucose levels as it is the best tool we have in determining how different foods affect us and also retaining maximum flexibility in our diet. You are already showing great improvements, so try not to stress too much about the odd result that is out of range. On those occasions, try and work out what may have caused the higher level and record it for future reference. Be warned that sometimes there is no obvious reason, which can be frustrating but don't let it knock your confidence.

Please feel free to ask anything that is confusing you and we'll be happy to help! 🙂

Hello Linda honoured to have made your acquaintance :D

Hi Linda. Welcome 🙂

Rob

Welcome to the forum from me too.

As Northey says, don't let the odd high reading knock your confidence. So long as you're Ok more often than not then you'll be doing fine.

Andy 🙂
