If you are an ordinary type 2, as I was, with any luck it should be fairly easy to achieve.
I only need to stick to a low carb diet to do the trick, but for some people it is more complicated

I’ve started doing Slimming World, which my GP nurse said was a good diet regime for diabetics, and I’m really hoping it will do the trick.

I can't see their regime helping all that much - if you concentrate on controlling your blood glucose and keeping it within normal levels by altering your intake of carbs it is probably going to do you a lot more good. That is the problem, after all.
My glucose meter showed me that I am a lot more sensitive to carbs in the morning, so I have 1/4 of my daily intake in the morning and the rest in the evening - I only eat twice a day.

Hiya - 2 questions if you don't mind, firstly what were you told your HBA1c test result was? Secondly how much weight are you hoping to lose? - and did you already know you needed to lose weight. Oooh, sorry - thirdly (!) what actually led to you being tested for diabetes ?

Hi RevRick, welcome to the forum.

There are many approaches to getting into remission, haven't heard of slimming world being specifically helpful but the weight loss aspect can be tailored once you understand a bit more about what's required.

Do make note of your HbA1c so you can chart your journey.

We've got some info on remission on our main site so do have a look and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Some people have had success with Slimming World as long as they appreciate it is not necessarily focussed on reducing blood glucose levels and may have meals which are too high in carbohydrates and include snack which are again too high carb. But it may be something you can adapt by making some substitutions of the high carb foods for those which are lower. But even so having a means of testing whether the meals are suitable would be a good idea. Many people do find having a home blood glucose monitor allows them to manage their diabetes rather than wait for the periodic HbA1C test and they can make sure they are on the right track with dietary changes.
Inexpensive monitors are available on line, the GlucoNavii or TEE2 being ones with the cheapest strips. It is unlikely that you would be prescribed a monitor as Type 2 so many people self fund.
