Hello

I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My blood sugar level was at 53 in November and 49 two weeks ago. I have been having what feels like nerve pain in my left arm for quite some time. It used to come and go over weeks but has been around for several weeks now. It started with shooting pains from my elbow to my wrist and sometimes a sharp pain in my long arm that would go away if I moved it. Now I have a funny sensation in my wrist and when I type my fingers feel 'funny'. Also, when I do everyday things like wringing out the dishcloth, I get the same shooting pain. It is only in my left arm. Any thoughts/advice?

I have an appointment with the GP on Wednesday.

It sounds like a physical problem like a trapped nerve to me. I had a shooting pain down my arm years ago when I had a trapped nerve. It felt very strange. The doctor should be able to advise the best remedy for it. I hope you get it sorted.

Welcome to the forum @mrb_diabetes

Sorry to hear about the unpleasant sensations you have been experiencing.

I was once told that nerve pain/discomfort related to diabetes more commonly develops bilaterally (on both sides at once) which may suggest that your pains are not related to changes due to diabetes.

Some forum members experience is different, so this may not always be the case, but perhaps as @Inka suggests it may be connected with a trapped nerve rather than changes from long-term nerve damage?

Hope your appointment gives you some more clues, and helps to point the way forwards.

Thanks for your reply. Since posting I’m getting mildly similar feelings/sensation in my right arm and pins and needle/tingling sensation in both feet. I made a call to 111 last night who has arranged for a GP to call me back this afternoon.
