Hi All

Diagnosed T2 around a month or so ago, still struggling to get my head round it. I wasnt going for tests for Diabetes - they were trying to sort my blood pressure, so it was a bit out of the blue.

When diagnosed I thought I'd take one tablet a day for a couple of weeks, then it would clear up and all would be OK... bit like taking Antibiotics. I know, I'm dumb!! Ha, the one tablet a day thing didnt last long - increased each week, now upto 4 x 500mg Metformin daily from last week.

Still reeling from the diagnosis to be honest..... Someone kick me and tell me it will sink in eventually!!!

Hi Emma, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, must have been a shock especially as you weren't even expecting it! But here's the good news - you have been diagnosed and you are now receiving treatment for something that could have lain hidden for years, and during that time it might have been slowly doing damage. More good news - diabetes, although serious, is something that can be managed well with the right amount of work, respect and knowledge - it doesn't have to spoil your life or your future, in fact many people find that the diet and lifestyle changes that usually accompany it end up making them feel healthier and happier that they have done for some time! 🙂

I would suggest, as a priority, getting hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. Many of our members swear by it as the best introduction to Type 2, what it means for you and how to tackle it. You should also read Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter to give yourself a good grounding. Many more links are provided in our Useful links thread, so do have a browse.

If you have any questions at all, then please do ask - nothing is considered silly, and you can be sure that there will always be someone around who can clarify things or put your mind at ease. 🙂

I look forward to hearing more from you!

Hi, Welcome to the forum. I'm like you, diagonosed just about a month ago & mine came out of the blue too. This forum is great, so friendly & helpful, I'd be lost without them. Good luck with it all 🙂

Hi Emma, welcome. It is a bit of a shock isn't it, especially when its found when investigating something else. ( Mine was back pain).

As Northerner says though, its good that you know you have it now and can get to grips with it. Its all a mystery at first, but you will soon learn how to manage it; take it a little at a time and pick it up as you go. Anything you want to know, ask on here, someone usually knows the answer.

Emma hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi Emma. Welcome 🙂

It can take months or years to get used to a diagnosis, so don't worry if things seem a bit alien and scary.
