Hi was diagnosed type2 in June with a hb1ac of 110!! Now with diet ( I've cut out a lot of junk) and exercise my 3 month reading is 36. I had all the classic symptoms but I also lost a lot of weight. I admit I've been quite strict with myself but I do have the occasional treat and I eat plenty of veg with my main meal but watch my carb intake. I feel better and fitter than I have done for years but I don't seem to be able to put any weight on. I'm at a loss at the moment, I really don't want to spoil my hard work but a few pounds on would not go amiss. I attended a DESMONDS course but that was geared more to weight loss so my questions never got answered. If anyone could advise me about putting weight on in a healthy way I would be very grateful. It's still all new to me at the moment and my aim was always to lower my hb1ac and level out my blood sugar ( which I have) but I would really appreciate any advice on what other people eat and any tip. Thanks Si.

Hi Si - Terrific effort on your HbA1c!

I'm no expert but things with lots of unsaturated fats should be good for putting on some weight in a very healthy way - so eg avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil.

You might find this site of some use: https://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1843/2

It's US-centric, so some of the products and sizes might be a bit off, but it uses US Food & Drug Admin data so probably fairly reliable, and it has a "Weight Gain" rating which might come in handy.

Thanks for the info will look at those later. Just need a bit of weight back on, didn't have a lot to get rid of in the first place!

Hi @Si100330 and welcome! That's wonderful to hear that you reduced your HbA1c so dramatically, sounds like you are on the right track with managing BG levels. It can be difficult to find helpful advice about managing BG alongside weight gain, as so often the focus is on weight-loss (as you have found on your DESMOND). But as you are aware, everyone is different and weight-loss is not always relevant for everyone.
There are a few tips on our website with tips on how to gain weight that you may find helpful: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-t...whats-your-healthy-weight/tips-to-gain-weight

And perhaps some other members here may have had similar concerns and have had to increase weight without rising BG levels?

@Si 1...Fantastic effort ..well done

Hey Si that's brilliant 🙂. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks but hey 156 to 38 is some going. Next reading is at New Year, determined to keep it down. Thanks for the support.
