Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello
I. Have been recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and to be honest I’m scared stiff both my mum and nan are diabetic and it was always going to happen but at 35 it’s thrown
Me for a loop... I am a bigger woman and have always struggled with my weight but now it’s slowly killing me and I need help.... my husband is supporting but I have no people to talk to about this so can anyone help ????

That reads as though you have always had a problem with glucose - diabetes is just the result of all the advice we are given about what a healthy diet is comprised of, and all the cheap things supermarkets stock.
If you cut out carbohydrates - many people find that around 50 gm a day is a good effective start point, and choosing low density foods too, rather than meagre amounts of high carb foods, is a good way to start.
I found I'd lost 3 stone only when my clothes started falling off me., but it isn't your weight that is the problem - despite what media and medics claim. If you are disposed to be a diabetic then fat or thin makes little difference.
A mail order meter with cheap strips will allow you to see just how high your blood glucose is, and plan to cut out foods you have just eaten, or what to have on the menu in future - but just about any protein or fat, other than vegetable oils such as those from corn or sunflower should be fine as a basis, then lots of salad stuff and low carb veges, tomatoes mushrooms courgette aubergines - there is quite a long list, and a small amount of high cocoa chocolate seems to work for me.

Hi Louise, welcome 🙂 All you need to know to help you manage is here so do take time to read as much as you can, then ask any questions you have. As Drummer has siad, testing is the best way to learn what foods do or don’t work for you, keeping track with a food diary is a great way to do this, the Code Free is the one most have and the cheapest both to buy and get the replacement strips.
It really isn’t all bad, honestly! For me it’s the best thing that could have happened (well......after a week convinced I would starve to death o_O), I’m 8 months in now, nearly 4 stone lighter and loving my diet 😛
