I've been trying to eat better with more fresh veg and lean meats, dairy etc whilst cutting my carbs down. I have had the occasional slice of home made sourdough bread at lunch and working through brown basmati rice, wholewheat pasta, potato to see what they do to sugar levels when eaten. I've stopped drinking beer except for a carb free one I've found as an odd treat and pretty much cut out chocolate and sweets which I haven't been missing. I have a square of dark chocolate occasionally. Going to work on cutting carbs more as I'm finding higher carb meals are spiking me up to 9/10mmol from 5/6mmol. I do get back down under 8.5mmol after the 2 hours but feel it is still going too high.
The grain free granola and yoghurt has been working for breakfast. I had it with a banana the other day which caused a high spike. Had an omelette today and a protein yoghurt which had 5g carbs and bloods stayed pretty stable.
Meds wise I'm on 1 x 40mg Gliclazide in morning and 2 x 500mg metformin AM & PM. The ANP at my Doctors is wanting to work towards getting it into remission which is positive and I'm going to try work towards that. My short term aim is to get off the Gliclazide and try to get diet, exercise and metformin to be the treatment for the start. I had to reduce the 2 x 80mg Gliclazide as I was finding an hour after eating dinner I was down at 4mmol and after having a snack it would drop again to 4mmol late evening.
I'm under a bit of pressure to keep it under close control as I need to demonstrate excellent Glycemic control for my work medical each year.
