Hi there, ive just signed up today, after being diagnosed type 2 last week... after a week of being completely overwhelmed am now getting my head around it all and seeking as much advice as possible! so hi everyone! 😱

Hi Stargirl, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but it's good that you have found us so quickly - there are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people her that will be happy to help with whatever questions you may have (no question is considered 'silly', so ask away!).

I would suggest having a browse of our Useful links thread. In particular, I would recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and if you can, get hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. These are all excellent resources recommended by many of our members.

It can seem very overwhelming at the start, but the good news is that things will get easier, you will start to feel much better, and there is no reason why, with a bit of hard work, you shouldn't be able to manage your diabetes well 🙂 Many people find that their diagnosis has led to them feeling fitter and heathier than they have felt for years, hopefully the same will be true for you. Are you on any medication?

Hi Stargirl

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but a warm welcome to the forum!

Unsurprising that you felt a bit overwhelmed at first - there's a lot to take in. Good news is that there is no rush to get thigs sorted today. A gentler return to 'normal' BG levels is actually slightly easier on the system. Steady progress seems to be the best way.

Take a quick look at the Useful links thread to get you started: http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=10406

Many members find 'Jennifer's Advice' particularly helpful. Additionally Gretchen Becker's book gets lots of thumbs up as a good overview of the condition - worth checking the library for.

Ask away with any questions as they crop up - nothing will be thought of as silly or obvious.

EDIT: Oops - posted at the same time as Northie!

Hello and welcome to the forum Stargirl Sheena

Stargirl hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum from me too.

I think you've got plenty to be getting on with regarding the various links Northerner and everydayupsanddowns provided so I won't add to it yet!

The thing is, just feel free to ask questions. Someone will be able to help most of the time!

Andy 🙂
