Its only been 6 days since the shock/surprise diagnosis and I feel like I am floundering. Is this normal

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis :( But don't worry, what you are feeling is very normal! Getting a diagnosis of diabetes is a big thing for anyone to take in. You may have all sorts of ideas about what it all means, and there can be information and stories flying at you from all sides. But don't worry, although it is a big thing, and things can seem very complicated and scary at first, diabetes is something that you can learn to live with and control well, and it doesn't have to spoil your life. In fact, many people have found that, once they have understood it more and learned how to control things, they start to feel much happier and healthier than they have fr a long time, before they were diagnosed and affected by all those symptoms of poorly-controlled blood sugar levels.

It takes time and some effort, but I am glad you have come here because there are lots of friendly, experienced people who will do their best to help you.

I would recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter as a good introduction, then please let us know if you have any questions about things. No question is considered 'silly', so whatever it may be that is worrying or confusing you, please ask 🙂

Hi there Sarah and welcome.🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. You're bound to feel overwhelmed at first - there's lots of info to take in. So what you're feeling is only natural. Let us know how you're getting on - there's lots of support and advice on the forum. 😛

Welcome to the forum Sarah 🙂

Hi Sarah - sympathies. {{{Hugs}}}

I didn't stop crying - on and off - for ages.

But, like everything , you DO get used to it.

You'll probably finish up much more healthy than you've ever been if you take the advice 'Diet, Exercise and Medification - if you need it' seriously.

Have you been put on any Meds yet?

Hello Sarah and welcome. It is a huge thing to take in and the feelings of ignorance and bewilderment are quite normal. For me it was a bolt from the blue, no symptoms, family history etc. You do get used to it and learn to cope and the people on here are absolutely brilliant, they will always answer your questions no matter how daft they may seem to you. No one is nasty and you are always treated with kindness and respect. You are among good friends. 🙂

Hi Sarah
I was diagnosed in January and felt like I'd been hit by a truck for quite some time, but once you've got a handle on it you'll feel more in control and hopefully a whole lot better. It's pretty overwhelming stuff, so don't push yourself too hard 🙂
