Doctors at Newcastle's John Hunter hospital are worried about a spike in the number of children being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Paediatric endocrinologist, Bruce King says in a standard year, the hospital would diagnose around 35 to 40 children with the condition.
But Associate Professor King says already this year, 41 have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
He says it is a concerning trend.
