Welcome to the forum

Hello Davey B, welcome to the forum. 🙂 I hate blurry eyes!

Hiya

Having had 90% of your pancreas removed - are they certain you are T2 ? - I would have thought you'd be Type 3 ?

I agree withJenny. A T2 dx seems odd when you've had most of your pancreas removed, and you've been put straight onto insulin which is fairly unusual for a T2 (although not unheard of).

Hi DaveyB. Welcome to the forum.🙂

Wow, sounds scary @Davey B 😱

Interesting that you have been diagnosed as T2 after such significant pancreatic surgery... I would almost expect another type/description.

Do you need to take anything else (creon?) after the surgery?

Your diagnosis of type 2 is wrong. Your pancreas cannot produce anywhere near enough insulin, so if anything you are Type 1. The actual classification is 3c, pancreatic diabetes. I’d be amazed if you weren’t on Creon with most of your pancreas in the clinical waste bin.

If you could tell us exactly what your medication is, there’s a gang of folk with pancreatic diabetes on the forum, the Creonistas, who will be happy to help.

Was only diagnosed on Wednesday.
All they said was type 2 .
using Novomix 30. Checking blood sugar 4times per day and injections after breakfast and dinner . Write everything down I eat .
The surgery was to remove. Grapefruit sized cyst from my pancreas that had ruptured. Was in a coma for 9 weeks.
They removed my Spleen, 80% of my stomach,90%of my pancreas leaving the head ,and gallbladder, lower intestine and half my bowel .
After 5 months I got home . ..
New to all this . So still blurry vision and my 1st appointment with nurse on Monday. ......

I could have absolutely sworn I'd posted the same answer last night - that you are T3, Davey !

Thanks @trophywench - hadn't spotted that the thread had been started in 2 locations. I have merged them now.

Thanks Mike - I get a bit frustrated when I can't do that sort of thing on here! LOL (for those unaware, I am a Mod of another forum)

Welcome to the forum Davey B. I also agree with MikeyB. Keep coming here as you will get loads of help and advice, to help you.

But in my thinking because all I was left with was the head of the pancreas. Then now that's not producing any insulin ,that's why they said T2 . I also have 22 other meds to take for other problems ie. Pacemaker after 7 heart attacks. Stomach problems and Prameprexole for restless legs .
Amazed I'm still here after all this

When your pancreas stops producing insulin, that’s T1. T2 is when your body can’t properly use the insulin that your pancreas produces. Why they said T2 is beyond me. This is important, because if you are ever recommended for an insulin pump, if you are classified as T2 it will be almost impossible to get one. As a T1 you will considered for a pump without any bother.

For what it’s worth, I’m amazed you’re still here after your pancreas adventure. As often as not, that’s fatal. You should have bought a lottery ticket when you got out of hospital while you were on a roll🙂

Thanx Mikeyb. Have since spoken to my nurse and she reminded me that when I was freaking out in hospital, she did tell me it was T1 but not a normal ! T1. So I have to go and see my GP. Still learning about all this and taking it all in . but glad your there. Cheers .
