Hi Mark, welcome to the forum 🙂 My advice, if you haven't been given one, would be to get a meter so that you can test your blood sugar levels and determine how you are affected by the different meals you choose to eat. It sounds like you have started off very determined and motivated, so well done! Hopefully, your efforts will be rewarded - your new diet should help reduce what you are asking of your pancreas, and the exercise will help make you more sensitive to the insulin you produce 🙂 I would recommend getting the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, and reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter. The more you know and understand about diabetes, the better your control will be. If you have any questions, then please ask away and we will do our best to help out! 🙂

Welcome to the forum Mark 🙂

Hi Mark,

Like you I'm a recent dx Type 2. Fasting level was 12 so I beat you.:D

Luckily I found this site within a few days. Today - four weeks on from dx - my fasting level was 4.9. All thanks to trawling all the threads here and buying Jenny Ruhl's books 'Diet 101' and 'Blood Sugars 101' and Gretchen Becker's book and following, like you, the low carb root and exercising daily. Makes sense to follow them what know, I say... Good luck.🙂

Hi Mark, sounds like you have got the right idea from the start. Keep at it & you will feel the benifits 🙂

Hi Mark

I'll echo all the advice above - Maggie Davey's Letter set me off on the right track from the start and the Gretchen Becker and Jenny Ruhl books have been worth their weight in gold since I was diagnosed 3 months ago.

Congratulations on your success so far.

Hi Mark, I had a 9.8 fasting test last year which resulted in an HBA1c test which turned out to be 86. I was officially type 2 diabetic. One year on with plenty of diet and exercise I have an HBA1c of 36 so, it does work. It is worth the effort required. Keep at it.
